Getting Started

Everything you need to create your first story

Fable Jar is a personalized storytelling platform for children ages 3–12. You provide your child's name, age, and a real-life challenge they're facing, and Fable Jar creates a beautifully illustrated bedtime story where your child is the hero — helping them navigate that challenge through the power of narrative.
It takes less than 60 seconds. Sign up for a free account, create a child profile (name, age, interests), select a challenge (like "making friends" or "fear of the dark"), and tap "Create Story." Your personalized story — complete with 5 illustrations — will be ready in seconds.
Fable Jar works in your web browser on any device — phone, tablet, or computer. No app download required. We also have native iOS and Android apps for the best experience, but they're entirely optional.
Yes. The free plan gives you 3 story generations for life — not per month. Each story includes 5 original illustrations. You can also read unlimited stories that friends and family share with you. There's no time limit on the free plan — it's yours forever.
Fable Jar works on any modern smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. It's optimized for bedtime use on tablets and phones, with a clean, low-light reading experience.

How It Works

The story creation process from start to finish

Most stories are generated in 15–30 seconds, including all 5 illustrations. You'll see a progress indicator while the story is being crafted. Longer or more complex stories may take up to a minute.
A story generation happens when you create a brand new story — that's when our AI writes the narrative and produces 5 original illustrations. Re-reading a story, reading a shared story, or listening to a narrated story — none of those count. Only new creations use your allowance.
Currently, stories are generated as complete narratives. You can't edit individual sentences, but you can regenerate a story with different parameters (like a different challenge or tone) without losing the original. We're exploring inline editing as a future feature.
Fable Jar uses your child's profile — name, age, interests, and the challenge you select — to craft a story. Our AI is specifically trained on child development principles, narrative therapy techniques, and age-appropriate language. Every story follows a structure: mirror the child's feelings, introduce a guide or tool, model healthy coping, and end with resolution and hope.
Yes. Each story comes with 5 original illustrations created by AI, matched to key moments in the narrative. The illustration style is warm, storybook-inspired, and consistent across all stories. Characters are designed to be inclusive and representative.
Story length adapts automatically based on your child's age. Stories for 3–4-year-olds are shorter (about 3 minutes of reading), while stories for 8–12-year-olds are longer and more detailed (about 7–10 minutes). We're working on manual length controls for a future update.

Safety & Privacy

How we protect your child and your data

Absolutely. Fable Jar is fully COPPA-compliant. We never share data with third parties, serve ads, or store anything beyond what's needed for your stories. Your child's name, age, and profile data are encrypted and visible only to your family.
Never. Fable Jar is completely ad-free. No banners, no sponsored characters, no data-harvesting prompts. We're a paid product, not an ad platform. Your child's experience is clean, safe, and focused entirely on the story.
Yes. Every story passes through multiple safety filters before it reaches your child. These filters check for age-appropriate language, emotional tone, and themes. Our system is designed to avoid anything scary, violent, or emotionally harmful. Stories always end with hope and resolution.
Fable Jar is designed to be a shared parent-child experience, especially for younger children. The story creation process requires a parent to set up the profile and select the challenge. Once a story is created, children can safely re-read or listen to their stories on their own. There are no links, ads, or pathways that lead outside the app.
If you delete your account, all your data — including child profiles, stories, voice recordings, and reaction clips — is permanently deleted within 30 days. We don't keep backups of deleted accounts. You can request deletion at any time through your account settings or by contacting support.
All data is stored on encrypted servers with leading cloud providers. Data is encrypted both in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). We do not store data in jurisdictions with weak privacy protections. Your child's information never leaves our secure infrastructure.

Personalization

How stories are tailored to your child

Very. Your child's name appears naturally throughout the story — not just pasted in, but woven into the narrative as the main character. Their age determines the vocabulary and complexity. Their interests influence the story's world. And the challenge you select shapes the entire emotional arc.
Yes! You can add friends, siblings, or family members as characters. Just enter their names when creating the story, and they'll be woven into the adventure as companions, classmates, or co-heroes. It makes storytelling social and shared.
We have a growing library of pre-built challenges including: making friends, fear of the dark, starting a new school, sibling rivalry, dealing with a bully, managing anger, coping with a parent traveling, bedwetting, picky eating, sharing, losing a pet, and more. You can also write your own custom challenge in your own words.
Absolutely. If none of the pre-built challenges match what your child is going through, you can describe the situation in your own words. For example: "My daughter is nervous about an upcoming swimming test" or "My son feels left out when his older brother has friends over." Fable Jar will create a story specifically around that scenario.
Yes — on the Starter and Family plans. The Persistent Story Universe feature means that characters your child meets (like Kumo the Cloud Fox) and places they visit (like the Whispering Garden) can return in future stories. This creates familiarity, continuity, and deeper emotional connection over time.
Personalized Stories put your child at the center — their name, their world, their challenge. Timeless Wisdom Stories are retellings of classic moral fables, cultural legends, and faith-based stories adapted beautifully for children. Both modes are available on paid plans.

Story Content

What your child learns from every story

Fable Jar works beautifully for children ages 3 to 12. Stories automatically adapt vocabulary, sentence complexity, emotional nuance, and themes based on the age in your child's profile. A story for a 4-year-old is simple, visual, and short. A story for a 10-year-old has more depth, longer arcs, and more complex emotions.
Yes. Our story framework is informed by bibliotherapy, narrative therapy, and social-emotional learning principles. Every story follows a proven structure: validate the child's feelings, model healthy coping strategies, and end with resolution and empowerment. We work with child psychologists to refine our approach.
Every story ends with hope and positive resolution — but not in a simplistic way. The child doesn't magically solve everything. Instead, they take a brave step, learn a lesson, or see a situation differently. The resolution is earned, not given, which makes it more meaningful and believable for children.
Yes. Fable Jar includes adaptive modes for children with different needs. Autism-friendly stories use predictable structures and sensory-aware language. ADHD-adapted stories have shorter chapters with frequent hooks. Dyslexia-friendly stories offer audio narration synced with highlighted text. You can enable these in your child's profile settings.
Our Timeless Wisdom mode includes stories from many traditions — Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and more — retold in age-appropriate, respectful ways. We're continually expanding our library. If you'd like to see a specific tradition represented, let us know through the feedback option in the app.

Voice & Narration

Bringing stories to life with sound

Every story can be narrated aloud with natural, expressive AI narration. Just tap the play button. The narration adjusts pacing for suspense, softens for gentle moments, and uses different tones for different characters. You can listen hands-free — no screen needed.
Record a short sample of your voice — about 30 seconds of natural speech. Fable Jar learns your tone, pace, and warmth, then uses it to narrate every story in your voice. It's designed for parents who travel for work or can't always be there at bedtime. Your child hears you, even when you're away.
Yes. The Starter plan includes 1 voice clone profile; the Family plan includes 3. Mom, Dad, Grandma — each can record their voice, and your child can choose who "reads" tonight's story. It's a beautiful way to keep family voices present across distances.
Voice credits are used to generate narrated audio versions of your stories using voice cloning. The Starter plan includes 3 voice credits per month and the Family plan includes 6. You can also purchase additional credit packs starting at $1.49 each. Standard AI narration (not voice-cloned) is unlimited on all paid plans.
Your voice data is encrypted and stored securely. It can only be used within your Fable Jar account to narrate stories for your children. We do not share, sell, or use voice data for any other purpose. You can delete your voice clone at any time from your account settings, and the data is permanently removed.

Sharing & Family

Keeping the whole family connected through stories

Yes! You can share any story via a simple link — through WhatsApp, email, text, or any messaging app. The recipient doesn't need a Fable Jar account. They can read and listen to the story on any device. It's a wonderful way to keep grandparents and extended family connected to your child's storytelling journey.
Every story can be turned into a beautifully illustrated share card — a visual keepsake featuring the story title, a key illustration, and a meaningful quote. You can share it on WhatsApp, Instagram Stories, or save it to your camera roll. On the free plan, share cards include a small Fable Jar watermark. Paid plans remove the watermark.
Yes. Your account isn't device-locked. Both parents can log in on their own phone or tablet and create stories from the same plan. Story generations and voice credits are shared across the account, not per device.
Yes — on the Family plan. You can export any story as a beautifully formatted PDF with illustrations, your child's name on the cover, and print it at home or at a local print shop. It makes a wonderful birthday gift or keepsake for the bookshelf.
Yes. Fable Jar lets you record a video or audio clip of your child's reaction while the story plays — that first gasp when they hear their name, the giggle, the wide eyes. The reaction is saved alongside the story in your Memory Jar, creating a combined keepsake of both the story and the child who experienced it.

Pricing & Plans

Understanding what each plan includes

The Starter plan's 30 stories covers one story per night for a single child — a full month of bedtime magic. The Family plan's 60 stories is designed for families with 2–3 children who may each want their own story on some nights.
Yes. Yearly billing saves you approximately 17% compared to monthly billing. The Starter plan is $7.99/month billed annually ($95.88/year), and the Family plan is $16.49/month billed annually ($197.88/year). You can switch between monthly and yearly at any time.
No. Your 30 (Starter) or 60 (Family) story generations reset each month on your billing date. This keeps pricing simple and predictable. Voice credits you purchase separately never expire.
Not at launch, but gift subscriptions are on our roadmap. In the meantime, you can create a story featuring a friend's child and share it with them — they'll get a free account and can upgrade whenever they're ready.
You'll see a prompt letting you know you've reached your monthly limit with the option to upgrade. You can still read all your existing stories, listen to any narrated stories, and read stories shared by others. Your quota resets on your next billing date.
🧾

Billing

Managing your account and payments

Your stories and your child's Memory Jar are never deleted. If you cancel, your account reverts to the Free plan — you can still read all your previously generated stories and any stories shared with you. You just can't generate new ones beyond the 3 free lifetime stories.
Yes, anytime. Upgrading takes effect immediately. Downgrading takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. Story generation quotas reset on your billing date.
If you're not happy within the first 7 days of your subscription, contact us and we'll issue a full refund, no questions asked. After 7 days, there are no refunds, but you can cancel anytime to prevent future charges.
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal. All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We never store your full card details on our servers.
Yes. Voice credits can only be used on a Starter or Family plan. If you downgrade to Free, your purchased credits are saved and will be available the moment you resubscribe — they never expire.
Your price is locked in for as long as you remain on your current plan. If we ever raise prices, existing subscribers keep their original rate. We'll always give at least 30 days' notice before any pricing changes that affect new subscribers.

Multi-Child

Using Fable Jar with multiple children

The Free plan allows 1 child profile. The Starter plan allows 1 profile. The Family plan allows up to 4 child profiles — each with their own name, age, interests, Memory Jar, and story history. Every profile is completely independent.
Yes. Each profile has its own age, interests, and challenge history. A story for your 4-year-old will have simpler language, shorter paragraphs, and gentler themes than a story for your 10-year-old — even if both are about the same challenge. The AI adapts everything per profile.
Yes. On the Family plan, the 60 monthly story generations are shared across all child profiles. You can use them however you like — 20 each for three kids, or 30 for one and 15 each for two others. It's flexible.
Yes — one tap. The profile switcher is at the top of the app. Tap your child's avatar, switch to another profile, and you're immediately in their world with their stories, their Memory Jar, and their persistent story universe.
Absolutely. When creating a story, you can add any name as a friend or companion — including a sibling's name. This is especially powerful for sibling rivalry stories, where both children can be heroes together, learning to cooperate and support each other.
That's exactly what profiles are for. Each child gets stories calibrated to their age and stage. Your 3-year-old gets simple, visual, rhythmic stories. Your 11-year-old gets longer narratives with more emotional complexity. Same app, completely different experiences — because every child is different.
